Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Cheat Sheet
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get into in a minute — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Cheat Sheet
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can get an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing Cheat Sheet
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
