Background Drip Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Drip Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add different Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Drip Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Drip Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Drip Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Drip Email Marketing
