Intro Church Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Church Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic fit for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Church Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Church Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Church Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Church Email Marketing
