Up until very recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the firm offered phone support alongside live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / tools.

On the other hand, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can change fonts, designs and imagery easily enough with all the controls provided; and naturally there is nothing to stop you simply designing your HTML email template and minding the code for it.
Additionally, there are tons of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they are introduced in easy-to-understand categories, therefore it is generally pretty straightforward to find a good starting point for a template and edit it before you are happy with the plan.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates provided by Getresponse, there’s also the choice of buying a template from a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email software options are not very extensive (only 11 templates are provided – well short of their 700+ accessible for routine newsletters!) And some of them played up a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Landing page Builder

Accordingly, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I’d just go for one of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its rivals for quite some time using its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when a user is reading it on a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this now, and extend responsive email templates, but Getresponse is better than many similar goods when it comes to displaying a responsive preview of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’mobile preview’ button for an instant snapshot of your email resembles on a smartphone (see image right).

Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it to carry out rather basic tasks: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and track activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline according to their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact to a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this functionality would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your site that they finished a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to this pipeline period a couple of days later;
and dependent on the action they took with regard to that email (clicking on a certain link etc) you could automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them into a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and I can not think of any email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally must appear at committed — and more costly — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, include a bargain and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to add a bargain right to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your lead or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it’s a new attribute and the stuff it could perform on the automation side is remarkable. I am optimistic that this feature becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of getting your email database and your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is extremely attractive.

What’s more, Getresponse really provides you the deliverability rate of each message in your email analytics – this is something I haven’t struck on rival goods’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I do have to pull Getresponse up on one thing relating to deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability speed, it’s advisable to use a system named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but only on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ plans.
Although I’ve not struck any deliverability problems using the cheaper plans, competing goods do not force you to invest in a more expensive plan to avail of this feature — it would be good to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two approaches you can use to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’only opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.
If you utilize a single opt-in process, the person registering to your mailing list is added to your mailing list the moment they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in procedure, the person registering to your record is sent an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.
The main benefit of one opt-in process is that it makes it really simple for users to sign up for a mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion speed and therefore the amount of subscribers on your record. Overall, Getresponse is pretty simple to use. It is certainly easy enough to do all the fundamentals: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check statistics and the interface is pretty intuitive and clean.
In terms of how it stacks up against its competitors in this respect, I’d assert that Campaign Monitor is a tiny bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp has a slicker user interface (although one that makes finding certain functionality just a bit tricky at times).
1 area I think that could be significantly better from a user-friendliness standpoint is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide a very flexible way to create blocks of articles and transfer them around an e-newsletter, in practice it’s fairly user friendly to use and may lead to accidental deletion of content, or placement of it in the wrong portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a useful instrument – it’s only that the implementation of it might be rather better.
Also, as described above, the CRM instrument might be far better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I am getting charged for a product I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it restricts the amount of readers you can send to 1000. It would be good if this could be raised a little, as it would help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ scenarios.
