Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns which make use of landing pages will typically create far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing individuals to some (cluttered!) Getresponse offers something very useful in this respect that most of its competitors do not: a landing page creator (and one that is mobile-friendly to boot).

But unless you’re on a Getresponse’Guru’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page performance is fairly limited: you can just create one landing page, which can only be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and very importantly, you can not utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse program (where the system shows a sample of your users different variations of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page mechanically ).
If you are serious about landing pages – plus they are certainly a useful feature – then it’s definitely worth looking at one of the costlier Getresponse plans.
You may purchase the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an extra $15 a month, but quite frustratingly, although the add-on permits you to show an unlimited amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it does not include A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for one of the more expensive programs (which I guess is what Getresponse want one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite some time with its responsive email design functionality, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that if an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive record of your e-newsletter – you just hit a’mobile preview’ button to get an instant snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of using many well-known CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool in order to do mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to include prospects to it).
So when I watched Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM feature into their plans I was intrigued – that could potentially do away with all that data exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I was not that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you could only use it in order to carry out quite basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and track activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how to use this functionality would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific stage on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your website they completed a form ;
you could then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days later;
and based on the actions they took with regard to that email (clicking on a certain link etc) you could automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can’t think of any similar email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of performance you normally must look at committed — and more expensive — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all good news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity monitoring. Other CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or customer; doing this keeps a list of the communication in the contact’s history. There’s currently no method of doing this together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to leads or clients.
And oddly, if you click a contact in a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the actions they have taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications that you’ve delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To see this, you have to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, hunt for your contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing this does not exhibit their deal history.
Task management is non-existent too: Unlike dedicated CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You have to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a deal directly to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your lead or client at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it’s a new attribute and the stuff it can do on the automation aspect is impressive. I am hopeful that this attribute becomes developed over time since done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under the exact same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very competitive too by comparison to established webinar solutions. The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is always a very important point to check at when selecting an email marketing tool.
Not all email advertising suppliers are that forthright about their deliverability prices; however, Getresponse seems pretty open about this, with this to say about it in their site:
At GetResponse we are often asked about the quality of the deliverability rate. Because deliverability depends on many things, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate may vary for every mailing. For all our customers collectively, however, we are proud to say our overall deliverability rate now stands at 99%.
Clearly you’re going to have to choose the organization’s term for this, but assuming it is accurate, it’s a good rate and inspires confidence that the huge majority of emails that you send using Getresponse will reach their receivers.
What’s more, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of every message on your email analytics – this is something that I haven’t struck on rival products’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I really do need to pull Getresponse up on something relating to deliverability nevertheless: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it’s advisable to use a platform named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM using Getresponse – but only on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ plans.
Though I have not struck any deliverability difficulties utilizing the cheaper plans, competing goods don’t force you to invest in a more expensive plan to avail of the feature — it would be good to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two approaches you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: having a’single opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.

Overall, Getresponse is pretty straightforward to use. It’s certainly easy enough to do all of the fundamentals: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check statistics and the interface is pretty clean and intuitive.
In terms of how it stacks up against its competitors in this respect, I would argue that Campaign Monitor is a little bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp has a slicker user interface (although one which makes locating certain functionality just a little bit tricky at times).
1 place I think that could be significantly better in the user-friendliness standpoint is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide a very flexible way to create blocks of content and move them about an e-newsletter, in practice it’s quite clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or placement of it at the incorrect part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a helpful instrument – it is only that the execution of it might be somewhat better.
Also, as explained above, the CRM tool might be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial which Getresponse provides is completely operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon providing credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and now I’m getting charged for a commodity I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it limits the amount of subscribers you can send to to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a little, as it might help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ situations.

Some developments to Getresponse do have to be made however, especially where the email programmer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and less responsive than it should be. A lot of improvements could be made to the data capture types too, especially for consumers wishing to exhibit them on mobile devices.
