Getresponse’s feature set is possibly among the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does this provide all the crucial stuff you’d expect from an email marketing platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so on, but as mentioned previously, it’s recently been expanding the feature set to the point where it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style advertising and marketing platform.
The question is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let’s drill down to the key qualities to find out.
Up until quite recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the firm offered phone support together with live chat support, email support and assorted online tutorials / resources.
Sadly, the phone support has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. To be fair, many similar e-marketing platform providers only offer both of these stations – if telephone support is a deal-breaker for you then you may want to consider Aweber, which still provides it (you can read our Aweber review here).
Concerning the caliber of Getresponse support, I have not had to use it quite often (a fantastic thing) but once I have I have found it to be a bit of a mixed bag (less of a good thing). A number of those live chat service I’ve received has been excellent, and I have not needed to wait too long to talk to an agent; the email support less so.

Furthermore, you will find tons of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they’re introduced in easy-to-understand classes, so it is generally pretty straightforward to find a good starting point to get a template and edit it until you’re happy with the plan.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates provided by Getresponse, there is also the choice of purchasing a template from a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is the range of RSS-to-email software options are not so extensive (just 11 templates are supplied – well short of the 700+ accessible for regular newsletters!) Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns which use landing pages will typically generate far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing individuals to a (cluttered!) Website, they point users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture type.
Getresponse offers something quite beneficial in this regard that most of its competitors do not: a landing page founder (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).

If you are serious about landing pages – and they’re unquestionably a helpful attribute – then it is definitely worth looking at among the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You may purchase the Landing Pages feature as an add-on to get an additional $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to show an infinite amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t include A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I’d just go for a few of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do) .
Getresponse was before its rivals for quite some time with its responsive email design functionality, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that if an individual is reading it on a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this now, and extend responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar goods as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive preview of your e-newsletter – you just hit a’mobile preview’ button for a quick snapshot of what your email resembles on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and back into your email marketing instrument as a way to do mailouts (or the necessity to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to include prospects to it).
So when I saw Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM feature in their plans I had been intrigued – this could possibly do away with all that data exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 place.
Initially I was not that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it to carry out quite basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (emails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game somewhat on this particular front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline according to their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders depending on the addition of a new contact into a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this operation would be as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a particular point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your website they finished a form on;
you can then send a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days later;

However, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. There’s currently no way of doing this with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to leads or clients.

To see this, you need to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, hunt for your contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike dedicated CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is tough. You need to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, add a deal and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a deal directly to a pipeline and then input the contact details of your guide or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it’s a new feature and the things it could do on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am hopeful that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the notion of getting your email database and your webinar tool under the same roof is very appealing.
The pricing is also very competitive also compared to established webinar solutions. If you can get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it does make for a helpful tool – it’s just that the execution of it might be somewhat better.
Also, as described above, the CRM instrument might be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals can be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse provides is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I’m getting charged for a product that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it restricts the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be good if this could be increased a little, as it would help prospective users try out the tool in more’real-world’ situations.

Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 recording database will be the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally cheaper, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing front:
Some competing suppliers — notably Mailchimp – provide completely free account for users that have a small number of documents (but these do not supply the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid program ).
