Lately however, Getresponse’s attribute set has developed quite a bit, to the point where it’s getting more of an’all-in-one’ marketing solution.

We’ll discuss all these features in depth below, but first, let us look in pricing.
Getresponse’s attribute set is arguably among the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does it provide all of the key stuff you would expect from an email advertising platform – record templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned previously, it has recently been expanding the attribute set to the point at which it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The question is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let’s drill down to the crucial qualities to find out.
Up until very recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone support together with live chat support, email support and various online tutorials / tools.
Regrettably, the telephone support has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to need to use live chat (24/7) or email service. On the plus side, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can change fonts, layouts and vision easily enough with all the controls provided; and of course there is nothing to prevent you simply designing your HTML email template and minding the code for it.
Furthermore, you will find a lot of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are presented in easy-to-understand categories, therefore it’s generally pretty simple to locate a good beginning point for a template and edit it until you are happy with the plan.
If you are really unhappy with the templates offered by Getresponse, there’s also the option of purchasing a template by a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email applications options are not so extensive (only 11 templates are provided – well short of their 700+ available for regular newsletters!) This kind of performance goes way beyond what has traditionally been available from autoresponders, and lets you create an individual travel which may be customised to the nth degree.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that use landing pages will usually create far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing individuals to a (cluttered!) Site, they point users to attractive’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture type.
Getresponse provides something very beneficial in this respect that most of its competitors don’t: a landing page founder (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).
Products such as Campaign Monitor and Aweber ask you to make use of a third party (and non invasive ) landing page creating tool such as Unbounce or Instapage; Mailchimp recently introduced a landing page performance but it is yet to become sophisticated at Getresponse’s.
However, unless you’re on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ plan, the Getresponse landing page functionality is rather limited: you can just produce one landing page, which can only be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and very importantly, you can’t utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse program (where the machine shows a sample of your customers different variations of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and ultimately rolls out the top performing landing page mechanically ).
If you are serious about landing pages – and they’re unquestionably a useful attribute – then it is definitely worth considering one of the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You may purchase the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an additional $15 per month, however quite frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to display an unlimited amount of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it does not consist of A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I would not bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive plans (which I guess is what Getresponse would like one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite a while using its responsive email design functionality, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when an individual is reading it on a mobile device, the design and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this today, and extend responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit on a’mobile preview’ button for an instant snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of using many well-known CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing tool as a way to do mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to add leads to it).
So when I watched Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM attribute into their plans I had been intrigued – this could possibly eliminate all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you could only use it to carry out rather basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game somewhat on this front. The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders depending on the addition of a new contact into a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this operation would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your site that they finished a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to this pipeline stage a couple of days later;
and dependent on the actions they took with regard to this email (clicking on a particular link ) you could automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them into a webinar.
It’s very smart stuff, and that I can’t think of any email marketing product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally need to look at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it’s not all good news about the CRM front there are some big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to a lead or customer; doing so keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There’s now no way of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to leads or customers.
And oddly, if you click a contact in a deal pipeline, you can not see their contact action — i.e., the activities they have taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications that you have delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you have to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing this does not exhibit their history.
Task management is non-existent too: Unlike dedicated CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts to a pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a deal right to a pipeline and then enter the contact details of your lead or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it is a new feature and the stuff it could do on the automation side is impressive. I’m optimistic that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation strategy, the notion of getting your email database and your webinar tool under the exact same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very aggressive too by comparison to established webinar solutions. For instance, one of the leading webinar services, Gotowebinar, fees $199 per month to host webinars with up to 500 attendees; you can really do the same (plus a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (as long as your listing size is under 25,000).
With regard to attendee limits, the Getresponse’Guru’ program allows you to host a webinar with up to 100 participants; the’Max’ plan’s cap is 500.
You can also purchase webinars functionality as an add-on to a more affordable plan: $40 a month buys you a 100 attendees limitation, $99 per month buys you a 500 attendees restrict. It’s not clear what your options are if you will need to host bigger scale distributions than that however.

The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters delivered that successfully hit inboxes – is always an important point to check at when choosing an email marketing instrument.
Not all email advertising providers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems reasonably open about that, with this to say about it in their own website:
At GetResponse we are often asked about the quality of our deliverability speed. Since deliverability depends on a number of things, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate may vary for every mailing. For our customers collectively, however, we are pleased to say our overall deliverability rate now stands at 99%.
Clearly you are going to have to take the organization’s word for this, but assuming it’s accurate, it is a fantastic rate and inspires confidence that the huge majority of emails you send using Getresponse will achieve their intended recipients.
What’s more, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of every message on your email analytics – that is something that I haven’t encountered on competing products’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I do need to pull Getresponse on something relating to deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it is a good idea to use a system called DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but just on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ programs.
Although I’ve not struck any deliverability difficulties using the cheaper plans, competing products do not force you to invest in a more expensive strategy to avail of the feature — it’d be useful to see Getresponse being more generous here.
There are two approaches you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’only opt-in’ or a’double click’ process.
If you utilize a single opt-in procedure, the individual registering to your own mailing list is added to your mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
Using a double opt-in procedure, the individual signing up to your list is sent an email containing a confirmation link that s/he have to click before being subscribed.

On the whole, Getresponse is pretty straightforward to use. It’s certainly easy enough to perform all the basics: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check numbers and the interface is really intuitive and clean.
With regards to how it stacks up against its rivals in this respect, I’d assert that Campaign Monitor is a tiny bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp has a slicker user interface (although one which makes locating certain functionality a little bit tricky at times).
1 place I feel that could be significantly better from a user-friendliness point of view is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible way to create blocks of articles and transfer them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or positioning of it in the wrong part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head around it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a useful instrument – it’s just that the execution of it might be somewhat better.
Also, as explained above, the CRM tool could be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals can be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and today I’m getting charged for a product I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it restricts the amount of readers it is possible to send to 1000. It would be good if that could be increased a bit, as it would help prospective users try the tool out in more’real-world’ situations.

Pricing Vs Competitors
Provided that you’re pleased to use one of those entry-level’Email’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse plans are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, especially in case you’ve got a reasonably high number of email addresses onto your own database.

Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that based on how big your list, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 recording database is the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally cheaper, if less operational offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be Conscious of on the pricing :
Some competing suppliers — especially Mailchimp – offer completely free accounts for users with a few records (but these don’t offer the full assortment of features that you get on a paid program ).
As stated before, if you are ready to pay upfront for 1 or two years, you can avail of substantial discounts the other competitors do not yet provide.

Getresponse represents one of the more cost-effective ways to host and communicate with an email .
It is also one of the most intriguing products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under a single roof. It is hard to consider any rival product that delivers this’all around’ proposition, and it’s what continues to persuade us to use it to Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some developments to Getresponse do need to be made nonetheless, especially where the email programmer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is more fiddly and not as responsive than it ought to be. A good deal of improvements can be made into the data capture types too, especially for users wanting to display them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are improvements that could be made to the service offering.
All in all though I rate Getresponse very tremendously – you get substantial bang for your dollar with this item.
